Dominick Shattuck, PhD


A leading public health researcher and former school teacher specializing in men's health, masculinity, and behavior change, known for spearheading innovative studies and programs that engage men, women, and youth in health. He founded Relational Ground to build upon his work with private industry, community partners, and other researchers to increase reach and impact. As the Director of Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning for Breakthrough ACTION since 2019, he has integrated new technologies and adaptive reporting, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. A Community Psychologist, Dr. Shattuck applies mixed-methods research to explore critical public health issues such as gender norms, family planning, HIV treatment adherence, and vaccine uptake. Recently, he began an engagement with the American Institute for Boys and Men, as their Men’s Health Fellow. Dr. Shattuck is currently on the advisory board for NEXT Life Science’s PlanA male contraceptive, The Men’s Health Network, and regularly works in strategic collaboration with organizations including the Male Contraceptive Initiative, World Vasectomy Day, and individual projects. Currently, he holds faculty positions in the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine (OB-GYN) and the Bloomberg School of Public Health (International Health). His pioneering work includes introducing and testing contraception devices, scaling health services LMICs, and creating health-focused mobile games. He also co-chaired USAID's Male Engagement Task Force.
